WOY armchair

During the design process, the main inspiration came from reinterpreting the everyday objects around us, items we often use without noticing, and which may even seem boring. The relationship between object and human, as well as the interaction of different elements, provides an inexhaustible source of ideas. In the case of WOY, for example, the interaction of a wooden spoon and a sponge, and the formal distortion of the latter, defined the fundamental direction of the design. The choice of materials reflects this as well.

The most distinctive part of the furniture is the shaping of the seat and the U-shaped mahogany element that wraps around the backrest, whose dovetail joints reap-pear in the design of the seat. The encompassing element, carved from mahogany and hand-sanded, was made without woodturning, using a slower and more meticulous technique. It is a truly beautifully executed handcrafted piece.
